Sustainability

SUSTAINABILITY IS AT OUR CORE

Sustainability is something we treat incredibly seriously at Alexandra Harper Millinery.

For us it means creating our accessories in environmentally and socially responsible ways, reducing harm to the planet,
and ensuring fair treatment for our staff and suppliers.

A Tree For Every Purchase

We are proud to partner with The Future Forest Company so that for every online order, a tree will be planted in the UK, to mitigate our brand’s unavoidable carbon emissions.

The Future Forest Company is on a mission to replenish nature by planting forests, restoring peatlands, and safeguarding natural habitats to invest in a greener tomorrow.

Founded in 2020, The Future Forest Company brings together environmental science and in-the-field experience to restore and protect our natural environment, not just for our own well-being but for that of future generations.

Our Social Impact

All products are handmade in house or by approved, small or family businesses;

Preference is always given to UK based suppliers, even if it costs more;

Local businesses are supported wherever possible;

We offer above average pay for our all-female employees along with amenable working conditions, flexibility, and a valued voice in the general direction and operation of the brand;

We are the antithesis of the fast fashion industry! For example: it takes many hours to make one piece; items are made in small quantities ensuring no waste; pieces are designed and made for durability, repair and recycling (in other words, we create heirloom pieces to be passed down from parent to child and those pieces can be brought back from re-trimming, repair or re-design);

We teach clients how to properly look after, clean and store their pieces;

We partner with 'Saheli Women' – a female social enterprise whose mission is to financially empower women in rural Rajasthan through skills development and by providing sustainable livelihood opportunities in slow fashion. We take hand-woven and dyed fabrics created by these women and use them in our in-house made designs.
